Recreational

Mid-Hudson Rowing Association offers coached and guided sweep rowing for all club athletes.  While many of our members are graduates of our learn to row programs, others are returnees to the sport after many years away from their high school or college team rowing experience. The Recreational sessions are the heart of our rowing program and allow members the flexibility to adjust their rowing days to their own schedules.  Boatings are set daily based on who comes to the session. Recreational coaching is a MHRA club member benefit.  There is no additional charge.

Motor launch escort with safety equipment accompanies rowers.   Coxswains are welcome (gratis) club members and we train novice coxswains.

Weekly Recreational Sweep Rowing Schedule

(May – October):

  • Saturdays and Sundays at 7:00 AM
  • Tuesdays at 5:30 AM
  • Thursdays at 5:30 PM
  • Other times as announced.

Coached sculling is offered several weekday mornings per week.  This is a free service offerd by experienced MHRA scullers and coaches to all interested local area scullers.  The program is valued by many to improve skill and confidence, and is a follow-on to the more formal Sculling Clinics.  MHRA club members use their own equipment or share club boats; other are rowers arrange their own equipment.  All enjoy the company of other scullers on the river.

Coached Sculling Schedule (June - September):

Monday, Wednesday, Friday at  5:30 AM

Certified MHRA scullers meet early on most weekday and weekend mornings for less structured rowing using the "buddy" system.

Throughout the season our members participate in some special rowing events, including the traditional "Mills Mansion Row", a 20-mile round trip row from the boat house in Poughkeepsie to Mills Mansion in Staatsburg for a picnic brunch on the park grounds.  In recent years, Mid Hudson rowers have met the Rondout Rowing Club of Kingston at the park to share food and rowing stories.  Future plans include a moonlight row in the late summer.
